When looking to buy or sell a second hand scoot there are a few points to consider.

1.  What is the general condition of the scooter?  Does it look like its been garaged or does it have a few bumps and bruises, cracked or faded panels.  Check that mirrors and exhaust dont show excessive corrosion.  Its worth noting that the year model of a scooter is proabably less important than considering its general condition and kilometres travelled.

2.  Is it a name brand?  The safe buys are the Italian, Japanese or Twawainese brands.  Try to stick to Piaggio, Vespa, Gilera, Kymco, SYM, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha for a safe buy and an easy sale when the time comes.

3. How many kilometres has the scooter travelled?  Low kilometres is always prefered, as long as the scoot has been regularly serviced.  A higher kilometre serviced scooter is always more appealing than a low kilometre machine without service records.

4. What are the brakes, tyres and service records like?  Most scoots only hold 1-1.5 litres of oil, so it is key that they are serviced regularly.  Check that the service records match the manufacturers expectations.  Also look for costs that may come up in the near future, such as tyres, brakes, servicing and registration.

5.  Check to see what the remaining warranty is?  Some brands like Kymco and SYM have 4 year warranties now, so its worth checking what is required to continue that warranty in the new owners name.
