Many of our riders probably don’t get to see what’s in action prior to them riding their new Vespa. Â In this article you can get an insight into what goes on in the back ground
Every new Vespa arrives at Scooter Central crated up as it was at the factory door. Scooters for western markets like ours are specially packaged to prevent damage and so they can be double stacked for transport in 40 foot containers and shipped by sea.
The boxes have moisture absorbent pellets to prevent humidity affecting the scooter and the scooters themselves have plastic covers similar to a scooter cover. The bodywork has chaffed point protection also.Â
Each machine comes strapped to a specially made base that is designed to secure the wheels. They are strapped to this base. A timber framework is built around the scooter and then the heavy cardboard outer is strapped around the whole package.
The good news for us, and the environment, is that 90% of Vespas packaging is recyclable. This is a nice touch that we really appreciate.
Our workshop team unbox the scooter and bring it up to the workshop for what is know as a pre delivery service. The scooter itself was started and run on a rolling road at the factory, but comes to us without fuel, mirrors and a battery installed so its not ready to ride just yet.
Our admin team uses the 17 digit VIN number that is unique to every scooter to identify all is correct and in the Roads and Maritime Services system.
The scooter is now processed through the pre delivery service checklist which is appointed by the engineers at Vespa. During this time fuel is filled, oils and coolant levels are checked, the battery is charged and installed and a host of other checks are carried out. Finally the scooter is road tested and rechecked before it is signed off by the workshop team.
Meanwhile, the admin team are preparing the paperwork to register the scooter in the new owners name. Scooter Central is like a mini RMS in this regard as we are approved to complete registrations on behalf of the RMS.
This process is quite extensive as we need to organise a green slip CTP insurance, pay a number plate fee, pay stamp duty and also complete the registration process and pay another fee.
Finally the scooter is pre delivered, registered and ready for its new owner. When the owner picks up the scooter our sales team perform a hand over and the admin team register the owner in the Vespa warranty program that goes for 2 years, unlimited kms.Â
We take particular care with each Vespa that we deliver to a new owner. Right the way from the factory through to the new owners first ride there is a careful process we follow to ensure your riding experience is everything you hoped for.
