It is one of only 946 units that were built with the joint input of Italian icons Vespa and high end Italian fashion house designer Giorgio Armani.
Only 12 ever came to Australia and as most are kept under lock and key by collectors, we are ecstatic to get our hands on one and get the opportunity to pass it on to a new owner who has an passion for exquisite design and fine rare machines like this one.
This particular scooter has only travelled 2000km since it was originally purchased as a special order in 2016. It comes complete with an optional genuine Vespa 946 body wrap cover that keeps the scooter covered, buy stylishly shows off its lines for all to see.
The Emporio Armani was only made in very small numbers (946) by specific staff at the Vespa factory in Pontedera Italy. Workers need to have a least 15 years Vespa production experience before they are ‘in with a chance’ of being invited to build the 946. (A rumour is that the same lady stitches all the saddles and hand grips personally which are in fact hand sewn with needle and thread).
When Vespa teamed up with Giorgio Armani to develop Vespa 946 Emporio Armani it was special project to celebrate two of Italy’s most iconic symbols of style and creativity. This special edition scooter marks the year 2015 as the 40th anniversary of the foundation of Giorgio Armani and at the same time, the 130th birthday of the Piaggio Group who own Vespa. In keeping up with Armani’s signature of subdued color palette, this Vespa model features special combination of greys with subtle hints of green that is only visible under particular light conditions.
The name itself 946 marks the year of 1946 when the first Vespa scooter was made. Since then, it has become iconic and famous all over the world, people can easily recognize this vehicle from afar simply due to the design. Vespa 946 Emporio Armani represents modern interpretation of the original Vespa 1946 prototype. It is said that the design brief was that the 946 keep Vespas history in mind, while also embracing its future.
The Vespa 946 Emporio Armani is not only about technology but also style. Its aluminum cylinder blocks, brown-leather finishes, and luxury accessories are combined with electronic riding controls. It features four stroke fuel injected 125 engine with enhanced fuel economy and minimal emissions. For maximum safety on the road, this scooter is equipped with 220mm double disc brake, 2-channel ABS braking system, and large 12-inch wheels.
The front wheel fender and side rear body panels are made from aluminium, along with the handlebars and the die cast alloy saddle support, all adding to the exclusivity of this machine. The pressed steel body has 320 welding points, many of which have been done by hand.
You can see the words “Emporio Armani” on the side while the iconic eagle logo is located above the headlight. The metallic parts have been treated in a way to blend harmoniously with matt effect of the body finishing.
With Giorgio Armani’s passing on 4 September 2025, the Emporia Armani Vespa 946 has become even more sought after in the world of Vespa, fashion and design, given Giorgio’s person touch with the project.
